I am drawn to the figure and the subtle nuances of gesture that broadcast intention to those receptive to this manner of communication. Young teens are particularly adept, albeit, unknowingly, at this personal revealing of self. A sly glance, a turn of the head, a flip of the hand, all say something about the self, the self that is so often unglamorous or terrifying to the person themselves.
My experience has been in the gallery world, exhibiting drawings and paintings that reflect this interest. I found it particularly fascinating working with young adults, (non professional models), who unwittingly exposed their truer inner selves to me, allowing me to see what they often hoped to hide
